Clarity in a Noisy World.

Most leaders don't lack data. They lack filters.
5IGNALS is a practitioner-built operating system for leaders who need to cut through noise and make confident decisions — starting Monday morning.

⎯ The Problem

Do you struggle with:

Too many priorities, not enough traction
Teams that are busy but never moving what matters. Every week resets.

01

Decisions that stall because no one owns them
Everyone waits for the next meeting. Delay degrades the signal.

02

Strategy that dies in the field
Decks that look clean. Execution that breaks down at the edge.

03

AI tools that multiply data, not clarity
AI has memory. It doesn't have meaning. That gap is yours to own.

04

Information informs.
Formation transforms.
— The core thesis of 5IGNALS

⎯ The Framework ⎯

Five Signals.
One Operating System.

Built from 30 years of field decisions across manufacturing, consumer goods, and aerospace. Not a theory — a filter.

  • A mostly white background with a small partial graphic or icon at the bottom left corner.

    00 | Signal Zero

    Ground Your Signal™

Ungrounded leaders cannot filter noise. Purpose, decision rights, and incentives must come first — before strategy, before execution.

    —————

    "Information informs. Formation transforms."

  • Empty white background.

    01 | Signal One

    Improve Signal Strength™

Clarity requires elimination, not addition. The ability to say no to good ideas is how your best ideas actually happen.

    —————

    "Focus is kindness."

  • A clear blue sky with some clouds.

    02 | Signal Two

    Clarify the S/N Ratio™

Distinguish information that changes action from information that is simply noise. AI has memory, not meaning. Human judgment is the filter.

    —————

"Don't compete with machines. Compete with clarity."

  • Empty white background

    03 | Signal Three

    Apply the Rule of 5™

Human bandwidth has a limit. Five is the cognitive ceiling for meaningful prioritization. Work within it — or lose the signal entirely.

    —————

"Five bullets. Two lines. Friday by 3."

  • Empty white space with no visible objects or features.

    04 | Signal Four

    Strike Before Static™

Decide at the speed of reversibility. Most decisions are more reversible than they feel. Delay is the enemy of signal fidelity.

    —————

"Decide at the speed of reversibility."

  • a blank white background

    05 | Signal Five

    Clarity Through Contact™

Reality refines strategy. Go to the edge before you bet the organization. Strategy doesn't survive contact — it evolves through it.

    —————

    "Field before file."

⎯ Beta Readers

Shape the book
before it ships.

The 5IGNALS manuscript is in final development. I'm looking for practitioners — not academics — who will use these tools in the real world and tell me what actually works.

Beta readers get early access to the full manuscript, downloadable tools for each signal, and a direct line to shape the final book. In exchange: structured feedback at 30, 60, and 90 days.

  • Plant managers, VPs of Operations, supply chain — where the signals cost real money

  • Decision-makers who live in signal-to-noise daily — budget cycles, board prep, reporting

  • Directors to C-suite, any function — the framework works across all disciplines

  • Leading teams across generations where communication and priorities diverge

⎯ About The Author

framework.

I am not a consultant. I am not a theorist. I am a sitting CFO with 30 years of operational decisions — and every signal in this framework came from a real company, a real problem, and a real consequence.

Most leadership books are written by people who observed from the outside or made the calls from the top. I wrote from a different seat. As CFO, I watched decisions land. I reported on results. I played coach, scorekeeper, mentor, advisor, and umpire — simultaneously. That vantage point gave me unusual access to what actually separates leaders who find clarity from those who drown in noise.

I started in commercial lending at GMAC, where I learned that the field tells you what the file cannot. I moved to Ford Motor Company during an era when a truck rolled off the line every 53 seconds and discovered that clarity beats volume, every time. At L'Oréal USA, I led a plant-wide SAP implementation across eight years and learned that translation is a form of service. At Safran Landing Systems, I managed internal controls for aerospace components where failure was never a metaphor — and learned that controls enable speed rather than restrict it.

Today I am CFO of Shepherd Material Science, a fourth-generation specialty chemical manufacturer in Cincinnati serving 36 of the world's top 50 chemical companies. This book was written during my years at Shepherd. It could not have been written anywhere else.

5IGNALS is not brilliance. It is what I call "consistently not stupid" — the discipline of building a filter and using it, every week, under pressure, across five companies and four industries. I am part of this framework because the framework is made of what I had to learn.

  • The field tells you what the file cannot. Go see before you decide.

  • A truck every 53 seconds. Clarity beats volume. SQDCME as a decision tree.

  • Plant-wide SAP. Translation is service. Focus is kindness.

  • Aerospace controls. Failure isn't a metaphor. Controls enable speed.

  • $300M specialty chemical. Where 5IGNALS was built and tested.
